Founded in 1935, Herbert J. Sims & Co., Inc. is a leading national underwriter of tax-exempt bonds for senior housing and long-term care providers. Sims underwrote the first tax-exempt long-term care bond issue in the United States in 1965 and has since managed over $9 billion of senior housing and long-term care bond issues. Our specialty is financing projects for the elderly and 95% of the $500 to $700 million of new issues we bring to market each year finance such projects. We served as a designated banker for the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) Development Corporation from 1987 to 2001 and in 2001 joined AAHSA’s Business Development Council (ADC). As AAHSA’s banker, we lead educational seminars and provide finance plans and financial advisory services to non-profit long-term care providers across the country. The investment banking staff includes 15 bankers dedicated solely to financing long-term care and senior living projects. The investment banking staff is headquartered in Connecticut and includes investment bankers located strategically in other parts of the country including Florida, Maryland, New York and California. Sims Mortgage Funding is a Sims subsidiary which originates Federal Housing Administration (FHA) insured mortgage loans for the construction, rehabilitation, acquisition and refinancing of healthcare and senior housing. HJS Advisors, Inc. is a subsidiary of Sims that manages our clients’ investments in acquisition financings, mezzanine loans and seed capital financings. Through Sims’ subsidiary, HJ Sims Investments, LLC and its affiliates, Sims owns all or part of seven CCRCs and assisted living properties. Jeffery Asset Management, LLC is a registered investment advisor providing investment management consulting services to non-profit senior housing and long-term care providers. In addition, Sims works with the best independent consultants for derivative analysis. As a member in good standing of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA www.finra.org ) since 1946, our dedicated retail and institutional sales force in New Jersey, Connecticut and Florida sells all the bonds we underwrite. We sell unrated, rated and credit enhanced bonds to both institutional and retail investors. Our average retail order ranges from $40,000 to $50,000, and we typically sell each new issue to 400 retail investors ($15-$20 million of retail investor participation).
